Booksy pricing in 2026: what it really costs

By the hey.booked team

Booksy's headline price looks simple: $29.99 a month. But by the time you've added a second barber, taken a few hundred card payments, and paid for a Boost client or two, the number on your statement can look quite different. This is a calm walk through what Booksy really costs in 2026 - the base plan, the per-staff fees, the Boost commission, and what a realistic monthly bill looks like for a solo barber and a four-person shop.

To be clear up front: none of this is a reason to avoid Booksy. It is a genuinely strong product with the biggest consumer marketplace in the barber world. It is a reason to know the whole number before you sign up, because the whole number is rarely $29.99.

What Booksy costs in 2026

Booksy has one plan. As of July 2026 it is $29.99 per month plus tax, and it covers a single team member - you, your calendar, your profile in the Booksy marketplace, and the mobile apps. Every additional team member is $20 per month on top. There is no free plan, but there is a 14-day trial that does not ask for a card.

Boost new-client fee30% of the first visitOne-time, per new client Boost brings

That per-staff line is the one to sit with. Booksy prices by team size, so the subscription grows with every chair you fill. For a solo barber it stays flat; for a shop it becomes a meaningful monthly line.

The costs that sneak up

Per-staff pricing

The base plan covers one person. Chair two costs $20 a month, chair three another $20, and so on. A four-person shop pays $29.99 + 3 x $20 = $89.99 a month before anything else - three times the headline price. It is not hidden, but it is easy to miss when the ad says $29.99.

Boost and the 30% first-visit fee

Boost is Booksy's demand engine: it promotes your profile in the marketplace, and when a new client books through it, Booksy takes a one-time 30% of that client's first visit. On a $40 cut that is $12; on a $120 service it is $36. Two things to know. First, the fee applies only once per new client - their return visits are yours. Second, "new" means new through Boost, and owners regularly report paying the fee for walk-ins or Instagram followers who happened to find them in the app. The marketplace also lists nearby competitors next to your profile, which is the trade every marketplace asks you to make.

Card processing

If you take payments through Booksy, the rates as of July 2026 are 2.49% + $0.10 with the card reader, 2.49% + $0.20 for tap on your phone, and 2.69% + $0.30 for mobile or keyed payments. Fast payouts cost an extra 1.5%. To be fair, you would pay processing with any provider, and these rates are in the normal range - but they belong in the real bill, so they are in the math below.

A realistic monthly bill

A solo barber

Say you do about 120 cuts a month at an average of $40, all paid through the Booksy card reader, and Boost brings you four genuinely new clients.

  • Subscription: $29.99
  • Processing on $4,800 of card volume: about $132 (2.49% + $0.10 per payment)
  • Boost: 4 new clients x 30% of $40 = $48
  • Total: roughly $210 a month, of which about $78 is Booksy's own fees

The processing you would pay almost anywhere. The Booksy-specific part - subscription plus Boost - lands around $78 in this scenario, and it falls in months when Boost sends fewer new heads.

A four-person shop

  • Subscription: $29.99 + 3 x $20 = $89.99
  • Processing on about $19,200 of card volume: roughly $526
  • Boost: 10 new clients x 30% of $40 = $120
  • Total: roughly $736 a month, about $210 of it subscription and Boost

Your numbers will differ, but the shape holds. If the marketplace genuinely keeps four chairs busy, $210 in subscription and Boost fees can be money well spent. If your chairs are already full from regulars and referrals, it is worth asking what the marketplace is still doing for you.

Who Booksy fits, and who should look elsewhere

Booksy earns its price when discovery is your problem. The marketplace is huge - especially for barbers - the mobile app is among the best in the category, the no-show protection tools are solid, and their social presence sends real traffic. If you are building a book from scratch in a busy city, Booksy can genuinely fill chairs, and that is worth paying for.

It fits less well once your book is full. At that point the per-staff fees and the Boost commission are paying for demand you no longer need, and some of those "new" Boost clients would have found you anyway. Shops that mostly want a calm calendar, reminders, and a booking link of their own - without a marketplace around it - can get that for much less.

How hey.booked compares

hey.booked sits at the opposite end of the spectrum. There is no marketplace, no commission, and no per-staff pricing: the free plan covers a solo barber with up to 30 confirmed bookings a month, and Pro is a flat $15 a month (or $150 a year) with unlimited staff, services, and bookings, SMS reminders, and two-way Google Calendar sync. Your clients book from your own link, with no account and no app.

The honest trade: hey.booked does not process payments. That means no processing fees ever, but also no deposits, no card-on-file, and no built-in no-show charging - you take payment in person however you like. And it will not send you new clients; it assumes you bring your own. If Booksy's marketplace is actively feeding you, that is a real thing you would give up.

How much does Booksy cost per month?
As of July 2026, Booksy is $29.99 per month plus tax for one team member, and each additional team member adds $20 per month. A four-person shop pays $89.99 a month before processing and Boost fees.
Does Booksy take a commission on bookings?
Not on regular bookings. The exception is Boost: when a new client finds you through Booksy's promoted marketplace, Booksy takes a one-time 30% of that client's first visit. Their later visits are commission-free.
Is Booksy free?
No. There is no free plan - only a 14-day trial that does not require a card. After that it is $29.99 per month plus $20 for every extra team member.
What are Booksy's card processing fees?
As of July 2026: 2.49% + $0.10 with the card reader, 2.49% + $0.20 for tap to pay, and 2.69% + $0.30 for mobile or keyed payments. Fast payouts cost an extra 1.5%.
Is the 30% Boost fee charged once or on every visit?
Once. Boost charges 30% of a new client's first visit only; every visit after that is yours in full. The catch owners mention is that the fee can also apply to people who already knew your shop but happened to book through Boost.

If you mostly want a calm calendar and a booking link of your own - no marketplace, no per-staff fees, no commission - hey.booked is free for solo barbers.
