StyleSeat pricing and fees, explained for 2026
Аутор the hey.booked team

StyleSeat takes money from both sides of the appointment. The pro pays a $35 monthly subscription, card processing, and - when the marketplace sends a brand-new client - a one-time 30% of that first appointment, capped at $50. The client pays too: a $2.35 booking fee on every appointment booked through the platform. Some of those pieces are optional and some are not, which is easy to miss in the complaints and in the marketing alike. Here is each fee, who pays it, and a $75 appointment worked out line by line. Every price in this post was checked in August 2026.
What the pro pays
The subscription is a single Premium plan at $35 a month, with no per-team-member pricing - StyleSeat is built around the independent pro rather than the multi-chair salon. Card processing through StyleSeat runs 2.5% + $0.30 when the card is present (tap to pay) and 2.6% + $0.30 for card-on-file payments. Then come the growth features. New Client Connection takes a one-time 30% of the service cost of the first appointment with a client the marketplace sends you, capped at $50 - and StyleSeat will opt you out on request when you want the introductions to stop. Smart Pricing, also optional, raises your prices around 20% at your busiest times and keeps 5.5% of the service cost (up to $16.50) when it does.
| Price | |
|---|---|
| Premium subscription | $35/mo |
| Card processing, in person (tap to pay) | 2.5% + $0.30 per transaction |
| Card processing, card on file | 2.6% + $0.30 per transaction |
| New Client Connection (optional) | 30% of a new client's first appointment, once ($50 cap) |
| Smart Pricing (optional) | 5.5% of the service cost, up to $16.50 |
What your clients pay
This is the fee StyleSeat is known for, and the one your clients will ask you about: $2.35, added at the time of booking and charged to the client's card at checkout. It applies to appointments booked through the platform, whoever the client is and however long she has been coming to you. A reschedule does not trigger a second fee, and if you cancel on a client outside your own policy window, StyleSeat refunds it to her card.
The amount is small; the placement is not. The fee sits on your client's receipt, not yours, so it reads as your business charging extra - and on a $20 service, $2.35 is nearly 12% on top. Many pros carry that goodwill cost without ever seeing the line item themselves. If your rebooking pitch is "book online, it is easier", a visible surcharge quietly argues the other way at every visit.
A worked example
Take a $75 silk press with New Client Connection switched on, paid by card on file. Two clients, same chair, very different math:
A new client the marketplace sent you
- Her total at checkout: $75 plus the $2.35 booking fee = $77.35
- New Client Connection fee: 30% of $75 = $22.50, one time
- Card processing: 2.6% + $0.30, about $2.25
- You keep about $50.25 of the $75
A returning client
- Her total at checkout: still $77.35 - the booking fee applies every time
- Connection fee: none - it only ever touches a new client's first visit
- Card processing: about $2.25
- You keep about $72.75
The $35 subscription spreads across everything: at 70 appointments a month it adds roughly $0.50 per visit. And the $22.50 deserves a fair reading - it is a one-time cost for a client who may come back monthly for years, which beats most advertising. The real question is whether the marketplace is sending you people worth $22.50 each, and that answer varies a lot by city.
When StyleSeat makes sense
StyleSeat has real pull in big US metros, especially for independent stylists, braiders, and barbers - its marketplace and search presence genuinely produce new clients in cities where people look for a stylist by neighborhood. Because both growth fees are optional, you can also run it as a plain booking tool: keep New Client Connection on while you build your book, switch it off once you are full. That dial is more flexible than most marketplace models give you.
The trade is the client side. The $2.35 booking fee is not optional, and it lands on every booking - loyal regulars included. If your book is already full from referrals and Instagram, you are paying $35 a month for a calendar while your clients pay a surcharge for a marketplace they never used. That is the point where the alternatives get interesting.
Fee-free alternatives
A disclosure before the list: hey.booked is our product, so weigh this section accordingly. The free plan covers one staff member, three services, and 30 confirmed bookings a month; Pro is $15 a month or $150 a year, everything unlimited. Nothing is ever charged to your clients - the honest flip side being that there are no built-in payments at all, so you take payment at the appointment however you prefer.
Booksy offers a marketplace without a client-side booking fee: $29.99 a month plus $20 per additional team member, and its Boost program takes 30% of a new client's first visit - a familiar shape, except the acquisition cost lands on you rather than your client. GlossGenius Standard is $28 a month with a flat 2.6% on every payment and nothing charged to clients, though it has no marketplace at all. For a wider field, our comparison of Booksy alternatives covers this territory from another angle - and if the fee math has you rethinking your own menu, start with how to price your services.
- How much does StyleSeat cost?
- As of August 2026, StyleSeat's Premium plan is $35 a month for professionals. Card processing adds 2.5% + $0.30 in person or 2.6% + $0.30 for card on file, and two optional growth features cost extra when they apply: New Client Connection (30% of a new client's first appointment, capped at $50) and Smart Pricing (5.5% of the service cost, up to $16.50). Clients pay a separate $2.35 booking fee.
- Does StyleSeat charge clients a fee?
- Yes. As of August 2026, clients pay a $2.35 booking fee on appointments booked through StyleSeat, charged to their card at checkout. Rescheduling does not trigger a second fee, and the fee is refunded if the professional cancels outside their cancellation policy window.
- What percentage does StyleSeat take from new clients?
- As of August 2026, New Client Connection takes a one-time 30% of the service cost of the first appointment with a client the StyleSeat marketplace sends you, capped at $50 on the Premium plan. Every later visit from that client is commission-free, and professionals can opt out of the feature entirely on request.
- Why did my StyleSeat client get charged extra?
- Two usual reasons, both current as of August 2026. Every appointment booked through StyleSeat carries a $2.35 booking fee, charged to the client at checkout. And if Smart Pricing is on, prices in your busiest windows rise by around 20%, of which StyleSeat keeps 5.5% (up to $16.50) - you can turn Smart Pricing off in your settings.
- What are alternatives to StyleSeat without client fees?
- Booksy ($29.99 a month plus $20 per additional team member) has a marketplace but no client-side booking fee, GlossGenius Standard ($28 a month, flat 2.6% processing) charges clients nothing, and hey.booked - our own product - is free for one staff member and 30 bookings a month, with Pro at $15 a month and no fees for you or your clients. Prices checked August 2026. Our guide to Booksy alternatives compares more options.
If the part of StyleSeat you actually use is the calendar and the booking page - not the marketplace - hey.booked does that for one flat price, and your clients never pay a fee to book with you.
